Improbably, I’ve decided to start a blog. What ultimately led me to make the leap into the blogosphere was a reconceptualization. This is a personal development, not a self-promotional or pseudo-journalistic, project for me. Writing regularly and forcing myself to commit my thoughts to writing will encourage me to gain more clarity about some of the things that preoccupy me. It should also serve as a record of my thoughts which I can look back on to study my personal life trajectory. I could of course keep a journal (something I have done in the past) but a blog has the advantage of being public. As a naturally shy person (and I use that term deliberately because it properly captures the fear of social judgement that often hampers me), I think I stand to benefit from writing things that are “published” openly. Even if, as is likely, no one else will read this blog, the very possibility that someone could is enough for me to have the feeling of overcoming the reluctance to “put myself out there”. At the same time, the fact that this blog is sitting quietly in a small corner of the expanse of the Internet comforts me insofar as it means that my posts are unintrusive, happy to be found by any visitor but not actively vying for their attention.
